A Newcomer's Guide to Living in New Jersey

New Jersey is a state that’s been in the media a lot lately on various television programs, but what is it really like? To learn more about how to live life in this amazing state, read on:

Use Public Transit

New Jersey has one of the best public transportation systems in the country. You can ride the bus, take the train, or get where you need to go by bike or by car. For families that want to cut down on their carbon footprint by driving less, New Jersey is a great place to live. It’s also good for parents of teenagers, since the kids will be able to get where they need to go without commandeering one of the cars.

Enjoy the Seasons

New Jersey’s summers can be steaming, but its falls are a riotous explosion of colors as the temperatures dip. It’s also a great place for a white Christmas! While you’re sure to enjoy the seasons, if you’re coming from warmer climes, then you should begin investing in a new cold-weather wardrobe. You’re going to need thick jackets, gloves, scarves, and snow boots for every member of the famly.

Make Use of the Proximity

New Jersey is surrounded by a number of other extremely popular states, which makes visiting New York City or Philadelphia a breeze. Don’t hesitate to take in the sights and the shopping opportunities in any of the nearby states. In addition, remember that you’re right where the United States was born; New Jersey and the neighboring states are spattered with historical sites for both you and your family to enjoy.

If you’re thinking of moving to New Jersey, then you should consult with Eagle Van Lines. With over 50 years of experience, Eagle Van Lines is one of the most trusted residential and commercial moving companies in the NY/NJ area. We specialize in international and local moving. The Benefits of Using a Moving Company in New Jersey

Whether you are planning to move within the state or internationally, it is a good idea to use a moving company. Movers can make the relocation process much easier by providing the following benefits:

Less Stress

Moving is stressful enough without the added worry of having to transport all of your belongings on your own. Not only is it dangerous to lift heavy boxes and furniture if you don’t know the proper moving techniques, but it’s also exhausting. Have a quality moving company do the heavy lifting for you. Without having to focus on the physical aspects of a move, you will have more time for settling other important details.

Packing Services

Many local and long-distance moving companies offer packing services. With a staff of movers who have been highly trained in the best packing techniques, a moving company can safely pack all of your belongings so they are ready for moving day. The moving company will arrive with ample time to pack up your belongings and get them ready for the impending transportation.

Storage Services

Residential and commercial moving companies also offer storage services, which will give you a place to temporarily store any of the belongings that need a special place as you transition into your new home. Whether your new home needs some renovations or you just want to clear out some cutter, a storage service will help give you the space you need.

What you Need to Know for Your Long Distance Move

Moving is not always something people look forward to, expecially a person with little experience. Without the proper preparation, long distance moving can be a very stressful occasion. Whether you are planning on relocating to a new state or need help putting together an international move, this checklist can help you remember all of the essentials.

• Find a Qualified Moving Company: Not every moving company can handle a long-distance move, so it is important to find a reputable company who is well-equipped to go the distance. Movers who are used to long trips will be able to tell you how to properly prepare your belongings for the relocation.

• Transfer Utilities: Remember to stop the utilities in your current home and turn them on at your destination. Most utility companies can plan ahead to activate services as soon as you arrive, so electricity and hot water will be ready and waiting for you.

• Pack: As you pack your belongings, keep a detailed list of which items have been placed in each box. It is also a good idea to keep essential items, like toiletries, in easy-to-find boxes, so you can immediately take them out upon your arrival. Use packing materials like strong boxes, packing tape, and bubble wrap to ensure that your belongings remain safe during the drive.

• Remember the Fridge: Before you leave your old home, remember to check areas that may have been overlooked. Go through the refrigerator and kitchen cabinets, any storage spaces that are not easy to spot, and the backyard. It is always a good idea to take one final walk through your of your old residence to make sure you didn’t miss a thing—and to say farewell!

Eagle Van Lines has over 50 years of experience with long distance moving. We can also help with commercial moving between New York and New Jersey. For more information about our services, visit our website or call us at (866) 351-1743.

Planning an International Move to India? Here's What You Need to Know!

“Truth alone triumphs,” may be India’s signature national motto; but when it comes to the responsibilities and requirements necessary for international relocation, “truth alone” is not enough.

What’s needed is a quality top-notch mover like Eagle Van Lines Moving & Storage. Serving New York and New Jersey customers since 2002, we will not only ship your belongings with utmost safety and care, but help you navigate the sometimes-confusing waters when it comes to living abroad – especially when settling on India.

More so than Europe, India demands special attention to detail. It is a vast country, with geographic, climatic, and regional cultural differences that all must be addressed.  In short, there is no ”one size fits all approach” and some degree of culture shock is likely. However, there are many tips a traveler should be aware of when planning and executing a significant life-changing move.

Comedian George Carlin once mocked the aviation term, “pre-board” by asking his audience the inane question, “what, you get on before you get on?” playing up the redundancy of the expression to plenty of laughs.  Word humor aside, the term does have merit.  Pre-planning a move to India is a must and should not be done in a matter of weeks but rather months.  It’s a good idea to smart small, not overwhelm yourself and work up to larger tasks.  Since international shipping costs, like domestic hauling, are based in part on the weight of the items being shipped, economizing your belongings is key. F or instance, the bulk of low-elevation India features a tropical monsoon climate, with very hot, wet summers and pleasant winters.  Leave the down jackets, bulky comforters, sweaters, space heaters and whatever other winter gear stateside with friends or family.  Inventory all items in your possession and decide early on if it needs to make the journey or if it should be sold, discarded or donated.

Another simple weight reducing and compacting tip comes from the Indian relocation blog, Dehli Ledger.  On the site, two 30-somethings chronicle the promise and pitfalls of moving to Delhi after studying and living in Cambridge, Massachusetts.  They strongly recommend scanning and digitizing important documents like tax forms, bank statements, social security cards, passports, wills, and family photos.  Paper weight adds up and the less that needs to be shipped the better.  A Kindle or e-reader is also helpful.  The same rule applies with music.  If you haven’t converted your CD collection to MP3 and backed it up on a portable hard drive, now is the time to do it!  Bedding, too, can be left assuming you’re able to part with it as comparable products and name-brand mattresses are readily available.

Consider air shipping via Fedex or UPS for smaller items, leaving furniture and bulkier items for movers. (Always remember shipping insurance and a door-to-door guarantee to ensure your belongings arrive in India exactly where you want them to).  It’s also a good idea to research any international flights that still allow free baggage so clothes and other as-needed essentials come with you onboard.

Eagle Van Lines Moving & Storage, located in Jersey City, NJ, now offers international moving services.  Eagle's international relocation experts can walk you through the ins and outs of an international moving experience.  Visit www.evlmoving.com or call (888) 324-5329 for more information.

Of course nothing speaks to satisfaction like already pleased customers. Mr. Kaplan, formerly a resident of New Jersey, used Eagle Van Lines for his recent relocation to Australia.

“Relocating with Eagle Van Lines was a breeze,” said Mr. Kaplan.  “The fourteen and half thousand miles could have easily been 14 miles down the road. Thanks so much for not only the move, but the pre-move advice.”

Some of that advice includes checking with both your new country’s local U.S. Embassy Office for assistance in gathering the appropriate documents, like birth certificates and passports, as well as for making certain all of your items can safely and legally be shipped.  Other odds and ends like bringing compatible electrical devices and finding out the location of the nearest U.S. curriculum-based schools will also help lessen the anxiety common to an overseas move.

Our staff will be there every step of the way to help! Stay tuned to hear about our move to Mumbai, India!  We look forward to taking your call – and safely handling your belongings.

Tips for Packing Your Valuables for Your Move

Whether you’re moving locally or internationally, packing your valuables can be stressful. Are you packing them correctly? Will they break during the move? Luckily, if you know the right way to pack each item, then your valuables will be intact and in great condition when you arrive at your new home.

Glass

Did you know that using newspaper to pack glass objects can transfer the ink from the newspaper onto your glassware? Instead of using newspaper, try bubble wrap. It will protect your crystal, mirrors, and other glass valuables. When using bubble wrap, make sure that the bubbles are facing away from the object; this way, the bubbles do not mark the glass. To keep items from shifting, use a box that is only slightly larger than the objects inside.

Metal

Silver should be cleaned, polished, and stored in a specially made flannel bag; this will prevent any tarnishing during your move. Metal items, such as machinery and tools, should be packed together, not with more delicate metal objects. Machinery and tools may leak oil and grease, plus they are often large and heavy, and they can stain and damage your more delicate metal items.

Electronics

Packing your electronics properly will ensure that your investment is protected. If you do not have the original box and packaging that the electronic item came in, then you can use bubble wrap. You want to keep the box as dry as possible. Add desiccant packs to help absorb any moisture in the box.

Appliances

Appliances need to be specially prepared before your move. For instance, refrigerators and freezers need to be defrosted and thoroughly cleaned. The most important thing is to make sure all appliances are clean and dry before moving them. Disconnect any hoses, wrap them in dry towels, and place inside the appliance.

If you need help packing and moving, then contact Eagle Van Lines. We specialize in local and international moves and will make sure your move is easy and efficient. Call us at (866) 351-1743 for more information.
